Hearing matters, whatever your age.
On 25 February 2026, International CI Day also marks the fifth anniversary of the Cochlear Implant International Community of Action (CIICA) — a growing global network working to improve access to cochlear implants and lifelong services.
As members of CIICA, the Northern Cochlear Implant Trust (NCIT) and the Pindrop Foundation are proud to stand alongside organisations, clinicians, researchers and people with lived experience who are advocating for fairer access and stronger public health policy worldwide.
What CIICA is launching this year
Adult Hearing Loss & Screening Report
Released on 25 February, this report highlights the value of adult hearing screening and the urgent need to integrate it into national public health strategies. Too many adults live with significant hearing loss for years before being referred for appropriate assessment. Early identification matters — for communication, employment, mental wellbeing and family life.
Parents’ Voices Project
CIICA is also sharing progress on its new initiative focused on parents of children with cochlear implants in low- and middle-income countries. The response has been powerful. Families are speaking candidly about access barriers, service gaps and the difference implants can make when support is available.
Why this matters
Globally, access to cochlear implants remains uneven. Adults are frequently under-identified. In many countries, screening is inconsistent or absent. Children may receive devices but lack long-term rehabilitation and follow-up services.
International CI Day is not just about technology. It is about connection — parents hearing their children clearly, grandparents staying involved in family life, adults remaining active in work and community.
At Pindrop Foundation, we see every day how hearing changes participation and confidence. CIICA’s work strengthens that advocacy on a global scale.
If you are marking International CI Day, we encourage you to share your activities and initiatives. You can also learn more about CIICA’s anniversary projects via their website and networks.
25 February 2026. Five years of coordinated global advocacy. And still more to do.
