Thirty years ago, I was leading the “quiet life”, not knowing what I was missing. Then I missed a business flight with my boss. Not good form!

My family were getting tired of repeating themselves, and a board meeting with international visitors was looming.

I’d struggled with the idea of hearing aids for a long time. But when I finally had a hearing test, there was the proof: I was having trouble hearing heaps of mid- and high-range sounds.

Once I got those hearing aids, it wasn’t long before my hearing was back to near normal. They helped me for many years and saved my job.
‍

Twenty years later, my hearing had deteriorated significantly. Communication was becoming difficult again, and my audiologist recommended a cochlear implant.
‍

I spoke to people who already had implants - people I didn’t know - and, almost without exception, they were more than satisfied.
‍

I’ve had mine for nearly two years now. I don’t struggle to hear, and I can even stand going to concerts and those loud movies!
‍

I’m 85, and I wouldn’t be without my implant.
